About Medicare Part D

Before you pick an enrollment option, it’s important to know that Medicare Part D plans differ. Although Medicare must approve all Part D plans, they have different costs and offer different services and drug coverage.

Your two enrollment options are:

1. Enroll in a prescription drug plan
(PDP) offered by a private insurance

  • You can do this by using a plan’s website or by contacting a plan by phone.
  • You can also find a private insurance plan by using Medicare’s Plan Finder.

2. Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan or other Medicare health plan that offers prescription drug coverage.

  • A Medicare Advantage Plan is a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private insurance company that contracts with Medicare to provide Part A and Part B benefits. These plans may also offer Part D coverage.
